If you're a reader, check this out!

Google Inc.'s Internet-leading search engine on Thursday will begin serving up the entire contents of books and government documents that aren't entangled in a copyright battle over how much material can be scanned and indexed from five major libraries.

The list of Google's so-called "public domain" works ? volumes no longer protected by copyright ? include Henry James novels, Civil War histories, Congressional acts and biographies of wealthy New Yorkers.

See;
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20051103/...google_library

I typed in "drums" and got this...
http://www.print.google.com/print?ie...ms&btnG=Search

Go to:
http://www.print.google.com

When you find a title you like, go to the, "More results from this book" on the left side of the window to get the pages to read. You might have to register to read the entire page.

This is freakin AMAZING!
Just type in Buddy Rich and you will get all the music books with reference to Buddy Rich. If someone wrote a story or anecdote on Buddy, it will tell you the page number and you can go right to that part of the book and read about Buddy.

From what I see so far they are only showing snippets of the books. Not the whole books.

You get the whole book, but if you're doing a search on say, Buddy Rich, you get only the pages which mention his name. Some pages are restricted, but don?t get too picky now.

You have to register first. Follow the instructions I wrote above for all the pages. This is amazing! I'm cataloging Buddy stories right now...I love this from an assortment of books, many non-drummers like Art Pepper who played with him...WOW!

Here's a few gems I discovered:

Buddy's Kit via 1960's

Art Pepper Meeting Buddy

Meeting a Young Buddy and His Father

What more do ya want

Wow thats an incredibly powerful tool. I just came accross this book:
The Drummer's Time: Conversations with the Great Drummers of Jazz

I might have to get it, from the pages i've previewed it seems fascinating!

OK...I've played w/this a lot and it is true, not every page is avaiable (some restricted) and there seems to be a limit time when viewing. That said, I have still looked at a ton of stuff, many page after page. You have to be creative in searching and you can get each page as long as your search phrase in on the page. I'm still learning.
